I'm learning to play banjo. Some banjos use what are called "carbon" strings which are similar if not identical to fluorocarbon fishing line. The tricky part is that banjo stings are determined by their diameter where most fishing line since most go by lb test rather than by diameter.

I'll go on manufacturers' website in hopes of finding one that lists diameters, but it would be nice to narrow the field. Can I get some opinions on who makes the best fluorocarbon line? Also, is there anything out there that newer, more, better, bigger, faster than fluorocarbon?

Wow! over a hundred reads and no one has an opinion on fishing line? It's usually not so hard to get an opinion here!

Go to a Harbor Freight and buy a digital caliper, it will toggle between thousands of an inch and MM. Cost you 20 to 30 bucks, depending on which one you like. Problem solved.

Maybe I didnt spell it out enough...once you have the caliper, go to a fishing shack and start measuring the different fluorocarbon lines ( or mono filiment lines) to determine which ones fill the bill for you...NOW...Problem Solved!
