I've always understood a diesel needs to run hotter than a gasser. My 6LPA has always run about 180F with clean exchangers. I changed the thermostat too with no change.

The modern Diesel don't produce so much heat...I found ...
    Temp:
    79-85 GradC
    175-185 F

I have no idea why my engine only make 66 GradC

My 6LP-STE 315 hp thermostate is a 70 degree centigrade ( about 158 degrees F) but it wont open till 78 degrees ( 172.4 F) Both original and a brand new one all opened and closed at the same temp, which made me suspect the digital laser temp, so I checked it against two other brands and they all agreed! Go Figure.
I'll say this, Yanmar is Proud of there thermos, $72.18 + tax Each!
So No, I didn't keep it as a spare!

I changed the thermostat (71 C) again, Engine is around 65 C an is not getting hotter. I read some say it is normal, some it should be at 87 C....

Openening at 71C Fully open at 85C, so engine temp should be 85C
